Many House Numbers Are Incorrect

For new owners, it's almost a solemn moment: attaching the house number. For taxi drivers, it is an important orientation aid and vital for life-saving personnel. Only if they are easily recognizable, they can be on the spot quickly. But with the visibility the regulations do not end. So many house numbers are actually illegal and their owner does not even know it.

The owner's duty

The house number is required in the Building Code. Paragraph 126 applies here: & quot; The owner must provide his property with the number specified by the municipality. & Ldquo; However, if you are looking for details about this rule, you will not find it here. For, according to paragraph 3 of the Paragraph, "state regulations" are applicable. in force. In German: Each municipality and municipality can make their own rules on the subject of size, color or material. These are specified, for example, in the Numbering Ordinance (Berlin), in the Regulatory Authority Act (North Rhine-Westphalia) or in the road regulations (Cologne). The homeowner must inquire with the local authorities as to which regulations apply to his area. The following criteria should be requested here:

  • Materials
  • Colors
  • Sizes
  • Fonts
  • Height
  • Location
  • Border border

In the city of Erfurt, the numbers must be placed on a weatherproof material be, right next to the front door at the level of the upper edge. Darmstadt, for example, stipulates that the house numbers must not be obscured by plants or buildings. In Berlin, the house number times just renamed - in real estate numbers, because even undeveloped land received here a numbering. Here, the city dictates that the numbers have to stand out clearly from the ground and must be at least ten inches high. And in Munich, even the material is prescribed: "cobalt blue enameled sheet metal signs or illuminated from the back transparent, cobalt blue glass number plates with etched or otherwise weather-resistant white font. However, divergent materials may also be approved upon application.

Where enamel signs are required, the municipality usually refers to a manufacturer who often knows the exact patterns and dimensions.

Typical regulations in many regions

Although individual regulations differ from place to place, some regulations can be found in most municipalities. This affects, among other things, the lighting. Here, Hamburg and Berlin have a pioneering role, because in these cities, the lighting of the numbers is mandatory throughout the night. In other communities where this obligation does not yet apply, rescue services in particular are in favor of voluntary lighting. Because at night, this little light can save lives. In many communities, there are additions to the nature of the house numbers - it does not always have to be as detailed as in Munich. But that rusty signs do not belong to house walls, should be clear to every owner. In some cases the number may be above the door, in others next to it. The height also has some leeway.

Those who do not have illuminated house numbers can buy and use simple solar lamps at the hardware store. These have the advantage that they are cheap to buy and do not need more energy at night.

Exceptional Regulations

While many communities are satisfied with a few rules, many officials have a veritable delusion about house numbering. In the Bavarian Unterschleißheim one is clearly stricter, than with the large neighbor Munich. No other materials may be used here, except house numbers, printed in white on a cobalt-blue metallic [...] sign, measuring 20 by 25 centimeters and [...] at a maximum height of 2.50 meters next to the entrance to the house. must be appropriate. A lighting or a lit license plate in addition, however, is not prohibited here. In Weiden in the Upper Palatinate, not only the house number but also the street must be printed on the sign (as in Munich, by the way). Here, the city & s "street and house number statute" states that as house number plates, panels sized 18 cm high and 22 cm wide (for unusually long street names 26 cm wide) must be used.

The reason is blue, the writing is white, the Arabic numerals. The street name is written under the arrow in two to three centimeters high letters. The city of Minden even prescribes the border. But also & quot; special & ldquo; House numbers exist in German lands, which express honors. Thus, in the Saarland, in Erfurt and also in Mainz, the green house number & ldquo; for environmentally conscious building and housing.

The house number at the home is the responsibility of the homeowner. This is uniformly prescribed nationwide. But the details of the house number on the wall are different in the municipalities and communities - each can make its own rules. Therefore, every homeowner should find out whether he has, for example, affixed and correctly illuminated his house number in the right place in the right place.
